Sheffield – November

Racing in Sheffield

I recently had the opportunity to compete in a swim meet in Sheffield on November 4th and 5th. I swam in the 100 freestyle and 50 breaststroke on Saturday, and the 50 backstroke, 150 individual medley, and 50 freestyle on Sunday. I was really pleased with my performance overall. On Saturday, I hit the second fastest best time of my career in the 50 breaststroke. On Sunday, I went a new lifetime best in the 150 individual medley, which was really exciting.

I’m really happy with how my training is going, hitting near 100k in the last month and I’m looking forward to my next competition in December.

Here is a more detailed account of my races:

Saturday

100 freestyle: First race of the meet and it didn’t go too bad. 1:38 but this was similar to what had been achieved in training on the Monday. Still more to give and a learning curve from the warm-up as only around 20 min but there wasn’t much space at the time however still happy with the time.

50 breaststroke: I went the 2nd fastest time within my lifetime bests which at this point of the season is a good achievement as there is more to come. By the time the next competition comes in December, I will be heading to Northampton and times should be stronger than what they are now. However, this isn’t a prime event where I should be rested and going lifetime bests as that will be April for trails.

Sunday

50 backstroke: My time wasn’t the best but wasn’t as slow as I thought it was. In fact, it was probably a little too reserved due to my main event following 10 minutes from this event. The time I went was a 51, The fastest time I’ve ever gone to date is a 49 so there is still more to give but know that this is only the beginning.

150 individual medley: A really strong event at this point in the season, hitting a new lifetime best going a 2:48. Still more to come on the event and by April for trials I should be rocking ready to go as close to the QT times for the games on this event.

50 freestyle: A really good race to end the meet at NER’s. Hitting a 43.2. Considering this was following my main event, I am happy with the time and know there is more to give when I am fully rested.

Overall, I’m really happy with my performance at the Sheffield swim meet. I hit a new lifetime best in the 150 individual medley, and I came close to hitting a new lifetime best in a few other events. I’m really looking forward to my next competition in December.

I’m also grateful to my coach and teammates for all of their support. I couldn’t have done it without them.
